Spring is here and summer will be right around the corner in the Phoenix area. Before you know it, the mercury will be hitting 100 degrees and you will desperately be in need of your air conditioner, so you want to be sure it is in good working order. Here are some of the things you should do to get it ready and be sure it will operate properly.

Change your filter
Your air conditioner and furnace air filter needs to be changed regularly to ensure efficient operation. A dirty air filter not only means a decline in air quality in your home, it also means your air conditioner has to work harder to make your home cool. You should change your air filter in the spring before it starts getting too hot outside.

Clean your compressor
Your air conditioner's compressor unit sits outside your home and as such is exposed to the elements That means that over time it will get dirt and debris in it, such as gravel, grass and sticks. This can hinder its operation and potentially cause damage. That's why it is important to clean out your compressor every few months, including in the spring. All you need to do is spray it down with a garden hose until you get as much of the dirt and debris out as you can.

Have your unit serviced
Though there are some things you can do on your own to help ensure your AC unit works the way it is supposed to, you also need professional help. You should have your air conditioner professionally serviced at least once a year. Arizona Refrigeration Service Inc. can provide service for you and make any repairs that are necessary so that your air conditioner is in top shape to handle your summer cooling needs.
